This weekend a mommy friend and I discussed how boggled we are that we struggle so much in stopping bad habits.  It seems one can fill ones head with knowledge and wisdom and still make the wrong choices.
Because of this, I am reflecting more and more about how I take care of myself and model to my children how to make healthy choices.
For me, finding comfort in chocolate chip cookies or brownies when I want “down-time” is an old habit from childhood.  It’s hard to break.  There was nothing more …

There will be moments when you won’t say just the right thing to your toddler.  You’ll be flustered or upset and yell or snap.  There will be days that the dinner will turn out gross, despite your extra effort to try a new recipe and buy all the yummy ingredients.  There will be the mornings when you’re late for every thing.  There will be weeks when you feel estranged from your spouse and the kids will cry, tantrum, and defy you.  There will be times when you feel like you’re …

This month’s Personal Renewal Group call focused on the Transformative Power of Self-Care.  One of the areas of self-care is our spiritual needs.  So many families are moving away from organized religion.  With or without an organized religious community, it can be easy for moms to neglect their spiritual needs.  Here are some great ideas from “The Mother’s Guide to Self-Renewal” to get back in-touch with that part of yourself again…

Take time to be by yourself to think or write
Take a walk in a park or out in nature
Meditate, pray …

It’s always comforting to find out just how connected we really are when you find yourself identifying with complete strangers in regards to private, personal habits.  One common personal habit I have is staying up way too late.  I love the quiet solitude of knowing that my wee ones are sound asleep, content.  A wave of excitement washes over me as soon as I slap myself awake after reading the bedtime story, saying the last prayer, and finally turning off the light.  “It’s time for me!” I hear my inner …

If you’re like so many moms, trying to fit in that physical care of your body is a tough one.  Our bodies are moving…

They have to get up in the middle of the night when our baby needs to eat or our child is sick or has had a nightmare.
They have to get up with our early riser and start breakfast.
They have to stretch to reach the block or pacifier that fell behind the couch.
They have to run after our toddler as he runs after the stray dog in …

Parents rarely hear that they’re doing a great job. We’re doing the toughest job we have ever had with no official training or certification. We gave birth and someone handed that precious bundle to us and sent us home with a smile and a wink! On a coaching call the other morning my client mentioned that she frequently lets her best friend know what a great mom she thinks she is. I love that! What a wonderful way to support one another. Do you …

The Law of Attraction (LOA) isn’t new. We’ve all heard of The Secret by now. Growing up, my parents often used the LOA without calling it that. When I was 9 years old my father became legally blind. My mother was a stay-at-home mom of five children. I am the baby of the family. My dad is a store designer, specifically for shoe stores. He relies on his eyesight.

Ever wonder what it would be like to experience a morning, preferably after a night’s sleep that isn’t interrupted, to hear the silence of the sunrise?
Currently, my time in silence is at night. My eyes are heavy and my head is fuzzy, but I force myself to stay awake - I need my time!
And then I remind myself how fleeting this really is - this time when my children are young and there is so much life running through the house. It won’t be long really until I …

“When we as a society begin to value mothers as the givers and supporters of life, then we will see social change in ways that matter.”
~ Ina May Gaskin, Midwife
I. was born via c-section. We had done everything “right” - we had taken 12 weeks of the Bradley Method, hired a doula, and received our pre-natal care with an independent Birth Center and midwife. I know intellectually that birth is unpredictable, but emotionally I felt like my wish of a water birth would come true.
