Create a Family Night You Can Be Proud Of
It’s never too early to pick a night of the week that pulls everyone together to do something special together. Since we’ve limited television viewing in our house we’re making Friday night “family night” for making homemade pizza and borrowing a movie from the library that we can all watch together. This last week was especially nice because we had Noni here - my children’s paternal great grandmother. She’s full-blooded Italian and LOVES to bake pizza crust.
I thought it would be fun, but I had no idea how much my six year old and 3 year old would enjoy family night. We’ve discovered some classic movies and thoroughly enjoyed them - “Swiss Family Robinson” and “Mary Poppins.” Of course, we start dinner earlier so the kids can be in bed as close to their normal bedtime as possible.
Do you have a Family Night? I know other families who hold family meetings, host game nights, cook or bake together. Part of establishing a “family culture” is making solid traditions. Be sure to leave a comment and share with others what family traditions you have that make your family unique and special.

Our current weekly family night includes stopping at the local pizza shop on the way home on Friday night and enjoying the wonderful pizza. Then we head home and either watch a short video or play board games with our 2 and 4 year old. They look forward to this weekly event each week and it has become a wonderful memory we are establishing.
We don’t have a “family night” per-say yet, but a tradition I have borrowed from a friend is lighting a candle every time we sit down to eat — breakfast, lunch, dinner, even snacks. It really reinforces for us the sacredness of mealtime and food. Look forward to hearing more ideas!
